13 things.. Us, teachers wont tell..

directly to the face of those who only know how to complain of what teachers jobs really is.. dont simply judge us of something that you see from far.. meh sini.. akak bagi pihak cikgu cikgi nak meluah rasa hati yang mencengkam jiwa raga bakul kami ini..

Jijah found this article while reading the Reader Digest months ago. I think it is well-written and would like to share it here regarding the arisen of the issue of how we complaint that our workloads have mounted tremendously that it has taken its toll among some of us. Not all teachers I would say because it may vary according to school's location and the surroundings... and how well teachers tolerate and dwell their jobs in their life too.. so here goes.. according to the Reader Digest its not just the workloads..

Fact #1
RD: If we teach small children, don’t tell us that our jobs are “so cute” and that you wish you could glue and color all day long.

Cikgu Jijah: I really wish it is all that.. but it is more than that ye.. belum lagilah yang terkencing terberak tuh.. kitorang redha ajek.. kalau ada akak² pembantu am, bolehla minta tolong.. tapi kadang tuh kena settle sendiri la dek non...

Fact #2
RD: I’m not a marriage counselor. At parent-teacher conferences, let’s stick to Dakota’s progress, not how your husband won’t help you around the house.

Cikgu Jijah: kita nih nak bercerita pasal report card anak dia kan.. sampai ke hal rumahtangga pulak.. adehhh.. memang tak dapek akak nak nolong de.. takkan la nak pantau anak buat kerja rumah pun tak sempat..

Fact #3
RD: We’re sick of standardized testing and having to “teach to the test.”

Cikgu Jijah : percayalah.. boring tahu asyik² buat latih tubi.. life has bigger meaning and more than just some marks and grade on a piece of paper.. ada kan satu kes yang budak bunuh diri sebab tak dapat 5A in UPSR.. aduyaiii.. ada jugak yang suka tanya "cikgu, kenapa anak saya tak lulus subjek ni?" and tak puas hati pulak bila kita jawab sebab anak encik kurang usaha. So what, if your kid failed his/her paper? My MM only knew how to read when he was 9 years old and he is now an engineer. Not to mention Albert Einstein who had speech difficulty as a child and failed his university entrance test..

Fact #4
RD: Kids used to go out and play after school and resolve problems on their own. Now, with computers and TV, they lack the skills to communicate. They don’t know how to get past hurt feelings without telling the teacher and having her fix it.

Cikgu Jijah : budak sekarang manja amats.. tak kata orang lain.. esok kalau akak ada anak pun gini jugak gamaknya.. mintak jauhla ye.. letih dek nonnnnn.. marah sikit nangis.. marah sikit merajuk.. kawan usik sikit terus " teacherrrrr!!!" sebatu dengar dia jerit panggil cikgu.. katalah satu kelas 20 orang murid .. kalau 20 tuh semua perangai gitu.. 5 orang cukuplah.. tak menang tangan akak jadinya.. nak go on with other lesson pun payah.. so jangan la marah cikgu ye if anak² tu balik mengadu itu ini..

Fact #5
RD: When I hear a loud belch, I remember that a student’s manners are a reflection of his parents’.

Cikgu Jijah: terimalah hakikat.. i dont simply blame the parents but.. malu kan kalau anak tu buat perangai gini? Buka lah mata dan telinga luas².. tegurlah anak tu dulu sebelum hal jadi besar.. setakat sendawa ke kentut jek ke takpe.. takut benda lain... a note for myself too..

Fact #6
RD: Your child may be the center of your universe, but I have to share mine with 25 others.

Cikgu Jijah : minta maaf lah ye.. memang akak tak dapat nak give full attention to all of my pupils. Setakat yang mampu ajek. In a day, a teacher may have to face at least 70 different faces with hundreds of different attitude.. letih yanggggg...

Fact #7
RD:Please help us by turning off the texting feature on your child’s phone during school hours.

Cikgu Jijah : some school may have restricted the use of hp. But I know sometimes its easier if our children have one especially bila nak suruh jemput bila dah habis satu² program tu.. To those yang bagi anak pakai hp.. kawallah sikit penggunaan hp nih.. sila pantau inbox anak anda.. kot ada yang "sexting".. minta dijauhkan.. and.. tak payah lagi bagi hp yang canggih².. kot hilang kena curi kat sekolah.. ahkaaaaakkkkk jugak..

Fact #8
RD: Guys who dribble a ball for a couple of hours a game can make up to $20 million a year. We educate future leaders and make about $51,000 a year.

Cikgu Jijah : To Jijah personally.. I dont complaint much about the moolah that we made.. sebab dah cukup makan pakai.. tak taulah cikgu² lain.. even if ada mesyuarat ke apa ke.. Jijah selalu kena marah dengan kerani sebab malas nak buat mileage claim.. mana tak nya.. banyak lagi kerja lain nak dibuat tu yang terlupa pasal nak buat mileage claim.. but being a normal human being takkan la tak suka kalau ada pay raise kan?

Fact #9
RD: We take on the role of mother, father, psychologist, friend, and adviser every day. Plus, we’re watching for learning disabilities, issues at home, peer pressure, drug abuse, and bullying.

Cikgu Jijah : sometimes jadi minah despatch pun ada.. nih kalau merungut nih.. kang hilang pulak pahala kan.. cuma nak mintak timbangrasa lah sikit.. jangan lah terus hukum kami nih macam² kan..

Fact #10
RD: Kids dish on your secrets all the time—money, religion, politics, even Dad’s vasectomy.

Cikgu Jijah : berhati² la ketika bercakap di rumah... anak² kita ni kadang suka menguping (pasang telinga).. esok kat sekolah habis di cerita nya satu kelas.. "malam tadi abah kita gaduh dengan mak kita sebab tak cukup duit bla bla bla"..

Fact #11
RD: Please, no more mugs, frames, or stuffed animals. A gift card to Starbucks or Staples would be more than enough. A thank-you note: even better.

Cikgu Jijah: seriously.. tak payahla berhabis duit sangat nak bagi hadiah kat cikgu.. Ahkak sendiri tak tau nak letak mana dah hadiah² yang banyak tuh.. bukan tak suka.. sukaaaaa sangat sampai akak ada a small cabinet for all these gifts.. tapi percayalah.. kami tak harap semua tuh..

Fact #12
RD: We love snow days and three-day weekends as much as your kid does.

Cikgu Jijah : errr.. M'sia tadek snow la kan.. just nak highlights that even kami suka dan amat perlukan cuti tapi ramai antara kami yang tak kisah berkorban cuti, buat kelas tambahan untuk anak murid. Yang kesalnya is when some of them pupils just dont bother to show up.. ada kenduri kahwin katanya..

Fact #13
RD: The students we remember are happy, respectful, and good-hearted, not necessarily the ones with the highest grades.

Cikgu Jijah : Definitely not the grades.. bonus je tuh.. nak good grades haruslah semua pihak bekerjasama. Tak cukup if cikgu sahaja yang beriya² nak bagi anak murid pandai. Parents have bigger role than us, teachers.. we are just the outsiders.. Jijah just nak anak murid Jijah jadi manusia yang berguna. Manusia yang berguna doesnt mean kena excellent in exams. We want it to be both pelajaran dan kehidupan. Better still to balance all the JERI aspects.. Jasmani, emosi, rohani dan intelek..

Now.. with all these facts, call us whiny, grumpy, cranky or anything you like.. Actually banyak lagi yang bermain dalam kepala ni. We, teachers are just normal being who is no different from any other normal people. We have our needs and we have our flaws too. Like myself, frankly I have a lots of weaknesses.. Im trying and hoping to improve it lil by lil. A step at a time. Not all teachers are like jerks atau berkira sangat every single details. So lets just help each others out ok... help to build a better life and a better future for us both and our children..

Comel..tq for the thoughts ;) Itulah cabarannya jadi cikgu sekarang but that doesnt mean cikgu ni terima aje semua bulat2 kan.. mintak those out there to at least understand that our job is not as easy as they thought..

zura.. mula2 dulu aku ingat senang jek.. aku ingat masuk kelas ngajar.. keluar kelas.. tanda buku.. tanda paper exam.. rupanya.. it takes more than that.. only those yang kuat mentally boleh survive as a good teacher.. aku alhamdulillah agak kuat.. tu pun masih lagi mengeluh.. banyak lagi nak kena perbaiki..

kak emmi.. tq for reading..
